  • 30,000 email accounts, personal information and evidence of accesses to PEC accounts are among the stolen data.

A group of hacktivists named LulZSec along with another anonymous hacker group Ita has collected and published a huge amount of personal data belonging to 30,000 Roman lawyers. The stolen information also includes the data of the Mayor of Rome.

What happened?

A folder stored on Megaupload revealed that the hacker groups carried out a series of attacks to steal information of the lawyers registered with the Order of Matera and Catanzaro.

Later, this stolen data that included 30,000 email accounts, personal information and evidence of accesses to PEC accounts was leaked online.

“In the last few days, the hacktivists carried out a series of successful attacks, they stole the information of the lawyers registered with the Orders of Matera and Catanzaro. Then the hackers announced big troubles for Virginia Raggi, the Mayor of Rome, but I suspected that the target was the Municipality of Rome,” said Livio Varriale, Security Affairs reported.

Although the purpose of the attackers behind the attack is unknown, but this is a serious warning for all firms who take vulnerabilities as a least issue.

Bottom line

The hacktivist groups have not intent of asking a rasnsom for all the published data. It has also clarified of not changing passwords and do any malicious activity with the stolen data.

“We accept certain donations, which are used to keep our services online, but we have never asked and we will never ask for money. On the other hand we could have asked for a ransom for all the published data, change passwords and do something else. But even if we have always been defined as criminals, we have our own ethics, much stronger and more respectful of the companies whose data we publish,” hacktivists said to Livio Varriale.
