What happened?

KHSU became aware of the incident after it started experiencing computer problems on July 1, 2019. The attack disrupted the station’s regular programming. Humboldt State University stated that the attack exploited a vulnerability in KHSU’s system.

The University noted that it has not received a specific ransom demand and isn’t aware of the source of the attack. Upon discovery, KHSU reported the incident to the federal law enforcement and the Federal Communications Commission.

What actions are being taken?

• KHSU is in the process of rebuilding its programming and improving the security of the radio station.
• Meanwhile, Humboldt State University is working with its partners in Chicago to remedy the situation.

“The University is grateful to its partners who are assisting the station. Capital Public Radio at CSU Sacramento is helping to restore KSHU programming and North State Public Radio at CSU Chico is airing its programming on KHSU,” media advisory read, North Coast Journal reported.
