Huntsville hospital’s vendor hit by a breach that may have affected job applicants’ data

Huntsville Hospital in Alabama is notifying job applicants about a breach that may have resulted in the compromise of their personal data. The breach occurred in May 2018 but the hospital came to know about it only in October 2018.

According to the notification letters sent out by the hospital, the employment application data stored on a third-party application vendor, Jobscience, suffered a breach. The hospital has been using the vendor’s services since 2006.

“Regrettably, we’ve learned that Jobscience, Inc., the vendor which we’ve used for online employment application services since 2006, had a data breach which may have involved information from individuals who applied for jobs at Huntsville Hospital. Because of this, notification letters are being sent to the affected persons,” the hospital said in a statement, SC Magazine reported.

Huntsville Hospital sent notification letters to about 15,000 applicants whose data was available on the website for the past 12 years, WAAY31abc reported. The hospital said that there was no evidence of any information being misused. However, the hospital believes that customers Social Security Numbers (SSN) may have been compromised. The hospital is providing identity theft protection to the job applicants whose SSNs have been stolen.

“Although we have no indication that any information has been misused in any way, out of an abundance of caution, we are offering identity theft protection to those job applicants whose Social Security Number may have been compromised,” the hospital added.
