​Attack on Under Armour’s MyFitnessPal app impacts the data of nearly 4 million Aussies

A new information has surfaced regarding the Under Armour’s MyFitnessPal app data breach. The data breach that occurred in February 2018, has affected approximately 3,977,385 Australian users.

The information came into the light after the breach notification submitted by the company to the Australian Government was made public under the country’s Freedom of Information Act.

“The company believes approximately 3,977,385 Australian user accounts were affected by the issue,” read the document.

In total, the data breach had impacted 150 million users. The data that was accessed includes usernames, email addresses, and hashed passwords of users. Following the discovery of the breach, the company was quick at taking action and started notifying the affected individuals through email, website and in-app messaging on March 29, 2018.

It is not yet known if the attackers had misused the data. However, the company has recommended users to change the passwords of their accounts in the MyFitnessPal app. It has also suggested users monitor their accounts for any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, the company continues to make security enhancements to its systems in order to prevent any unauthorized access to user information in the future. It is also coordinating with the US law enforcement authorities to resolve the issue.
